A tree of life motif is gorgeously depicted in this superb recreation of a rug first created by Charles Voysey, eminent architect and home furnishings designer who was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Considered one of the pioneers of modern architecture, Voysey was a major influence in the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements. This lovely interpretation of his original design in pale gold and red is woven on a rich golden background; its ruby, emerald and azure details glow like stained glass. Capturing the beauty of the original design, the rhythmic display of blossoms and acanthus leaves on intertwining branches form a latticework of repeating pattern that, along with a procession of leaves in the border, gives this piece a serene and stately elegance.
